I have designed new creations made of wood and paper especially for the exhibition pavilion located on the banks of the Havel adjacent to the Caputh Castle Park in 2021. These relate directly to the place and its surroundings and were created in the last twelve months in Caputh. The work and exhibition theme LICHTUNG evolved from different situations and perspectives.
LICHTUNG describes a place, an intermediate area, a bright, tree-free place in the forest, cleared and formed by human hands, or created by natural influences. LICHTUNG is the exhibition space itself, located between the banks of the Havel and the park and garden of the castle; an architectural body, which by means of its large windows creates a connection between inside and outside as well as providing bright light. LICHTUNG is a place to illuminate something, to bring it into the light and to explore it more precisely, to perceive it and make it visible. LICHTUNG also describes the internal constitution: to be a creator of something meaningful in these hectic and uncertain times. LICHTUNG was my workplace on a wasteland part of Caputh for the past twelve months.
May the exhibition create a bridge – a permeation of inside and outside, and an intermediate space to sharpen the senses.
